Why do two stroke engines produce more power than four stroke engines?

Two-stroke engines tend to be more efficient for one reason. Fours stroke engines, like those in your can, require four piston motions to fully produce power; compression, combustion (power), and exhaust strokes. In two stroke engines however, gasoline intake occurs at the beginning of the compression stroke and the exhaust step takes place just after combustion. They can do four steps in the time its takes to do two, making them more efficient.
