Why do thresher sharks have such long tails?

A thresher shark’s tail is almost as long as its body. The reason its tail is so long is because the shark uses it to stun and scoop in its prey – thus, the name. Those who have been fortunate enough to see a thresher in person say that it uses its tail like a whip.
