Why do swordfish stay so deep most of the time?

Swordfish are an elusive species, they tend to stay in deeper water throughout the day and rise to shallower water later in the day.  One possible reason given for this is that the Swordfish are following their prey as they undergo a similar daily deeper to shallower migration.  Also when hooked, Swordfish are known to swim downwards to flee from the threat, and at times have been found to swim so deep they run their ‘sword’ into the ocean floor.

    Hope this helped a bit!
