Why do swordfish live so deep?

Swordfish actually don’t live that deep under the water. In fact, boaters have glimpsed them near the surface–and apparently they make quite the impression. However, they dive deeply in search of small fish to feed on. Although they do not swim in schools themselves, swordfish cut through schools of other fish in order to obtain their prey.
