Why do the swallows like San Juan Capistrano so much?

According to legend, the swallows first took refuge at the Mission San Juan Capistrano from an innkeeper who destroyed their nests. The small birds continued to return each year because they knew they would be protected within the mission walls. The protection surly is a factor in their repeated return, as well as the mission’s location near two rivers and a constant supply of insects.
