Why do some species of animals and insects kill their mates after mating?

There is some debate surrounding the reasons for this but some theories are as follows:

-natural selection (relating to nutrition, if the male allows the female to eat him, she is healthier and the chance of her producing their healthy offspring is increased)

-increased mating time (if the female does not have to stop mating with the male to find food, they do not need to stop and thus again, the chances of producing the offspring are increased)
