Why do some people survive lightning strikes while others are killed?

The large bulk of energy from a lightning passes through a person’s body to the ground. It is possible to hit a person in the shoulder and travel down the side of someone’s body. It is also possible to hit someone in the head and still survive. The reason one can survive a lightning bolt is if it doesn’t pass through the heart when traveling through the body. There is much damage that lightning can do but if one’s lucky enough to not have the energy passed through the heart then there is a good chance they can survive. I wouldn’t take the chance though (kidding).
