That fishy smell is actually because the fish is not very fresh. Some fish accumulate bacteria much more quickly than others, or the grocery store might have yesterday’s fish instead of today’s. Rinsing it under cold water (if you are cooking it yourself) can help remove some of that smell, since it is mainly on the surface, but I would try to find a market that has fresher fish. Unfortunately, not very many markets offer very fresh fish (or restaurants for that matter). I think shrimp and crab can be the worst.
