Recycling exists because the earth has limited natural resources or renewable resources like trees that can only be grown so fast.  Rather than use energy to extract new materials from the earth, it makes sense to break down used items like newspaper, aluminum cans, and glass, and make new things from them.  Recycling also reduces waste by redirecting materials from landfills.

Recycling exists because there is so much material that we disgard that can be still used or re-used somehow. This often includes breaking it down into its singular components and reclaiming that raw material. We have reached a point in society where we simply cannot afford to simply keep producing waste. Without feasable and sustainable recycling practices we will run out of resources and unecessarily harm the planet.
