why do plants attract so many insects?

This is a two way relationship. Insects are attracted to plants for their food and shelter. Plants also try to attract pollinating insects such as butterflies or bees because without the help of insects, plants would not be able to reproduce. Certain plants attract insects more than others, regardless, plants and insects need each other to survive so they form characteristics such as fragrance or color to attract each other.
