Hunger pains generally occur when someone has not consumed any food for a few hours. They are caused by muscle contractions, a feeling which is generally described as unpleasant and sometimes painful. Generally, eating a small snack will relieve hunger pains.
People with low blood-sugar may experience hunger pains when glucose levels have dropped too much.
In rare cases, hunger pains may be an indicator of a more severe gastrointestinal disorder.
