Asthma is generally caused by allergens in the air. An allergy is caused when a normally non-dangerous agent (allergen) causes a reaction by the immune system (allergic reaction).
The reason you can outgrow asthma is the same reason you can outgrow any allergy. Your body adapts, and the allergen causes no allergic reaction.
