Why do palm trees do so well in high speed winds?

Palm trees are designed to withstand high winds, their separated leaves make it possible for wind to blow through them instead of creating so much resistance by trying to push around them. In addition, they are monocots- a family of plants that grasses and grains also belong to. This group of plants have their inside anatomy growing up and down, which allows they to be flexible and be flung all over without breaking.
