Why do leaves change color when it starts to get cold?

    It is because the trees turn off their abilities to make food, and the green chlorophyll disappears from the leaves. Some of the color is the result of glucose in the leaves, other color is the result of wastes in the leaves. These colors are always in the leaves, to a lesser degree and usualyl covered up by the green of the chlorophyll.
