Why do labs make such good bird dogs?

Labs are prized for their loyalty, intelligence, and hunting instincts. A pointing lab will instinctually freeze when it sees prey, making them a favorite for hunters. Labs are typically easy to train and want to please their masters, making them quick studies. This is critical when teaching the difference between retrieving an shot bird undamaged  and eating it. They are also favorites as ‘gun dogs’ and do not spook as easily to gunfire.
