According to the researchers in Japan who carried out the study, their findings revealed that the sperm genome had a detrimental effect on the longevity of the lab mice. The reason the researchers believed the lab mice lived longer with two mothers was due to a gene on chromosome 9 associated with post-natal growth. The researchers assert that their study might be able to explain why women in general tend to live longer than men and whether longevity in mammals is controlled by the genes of one or both parents.
