Wind turbines require a fair amount of space around them in order to be effective. They must be far enough away from any rising buildings or hills that would obstruct the wind it uses for power. Having a windmill near a private pond is probably somewhat of a coincidence. Because those with private ponds probably own a fair amount of land, they a) can afford a wind turbine and b) have the space that a wind turbine requires to function efficiently.
