Why do fluorescent light bulbs use so much less energy?

    With incandescent bulbs, a lot of energy is lot in the heat they generate, which means less light is generated for more energy. Fluorescent bulbs use electrodes to excite and heat up gas, which emits light. Less heat is wasted this way, which means they use less energy when producing light.
