Most town and city governments prohibit the dumping of any chemical, paint, or unnatural liquid down gutters and storm drains. This is because most gutters and storm drains are designed to redirect rainfall and snow melt to the nearest natural body of water, and the pollution would be harmful to both the ecosystem and the community’s water supply.
In most cases, the standard procedure for removing a chemical spill involves absorbing as much of the spill as possible with sand before transporting it to a safe facility.
