Why do families have so many cars?

Different families have different philosophies on purchasing motor vehicles. For some, they are a necessary means of getting to work other day; for others, they are toys and hobbies. Some families buy cars once their children reach driving age, while others pride themselves on using public transportation. Since it’s difficult to judge whether any family could do without one car from their fleet of many or without all forms of motor vehicles, many companies are looking into alternative fuel sources so that the use of motor vehicles will no longer be so harmful for the environment and the ownership of many vehicles will be looked down upon less from a green standpoint.
