Why do electric vehicle not produce engine noise?

Modern non-electric vehicles are powered by a combustion engine, meaning that inside the car a series of small, controlled explosions drive the motor. By contrast, electric cars are powered by the manipulation of magnetic fields and conductors, which are silent processes. Because there are no explosions (hopefully) involved in electric motors, there is very little noise.
