Diabetes causes many people to have artery disease which reduces the blood flow to their feet. Because of this and other nerve damage, foot infections are common for diabetics. If left untreated, the foot may need to be amputated. Not all diabetics have this problem, and it can be prevented by taking care of your feet as soon as a problem is noticed.
The problem of amputation among diabetics seems to be centered on the feet, and can be attributed to poor diet and little to no exercise. If a diabetic notices any coldness, numbness or tingling in their feet they should have them examined by a medical professional.
