When deer see the headlights of a car approaching, they perceive it as a predator. The deer’s instinct is to freeze to avoid detection in the woods, hoping that the predator will not see or hear them.
The headlights are blinding to a deer. They also become still when in fear. This is just a simple survival instinct, that usually doesn’t work out in the deer vs vehicle situation.
