Why do crickets seem to only chirp at night?

Crickets are nocturnal, so they are most active at night. Male crickets chirp to attract females. During the day, crickets are moving around and eating. Sometimes you might hear crickets chirping in the early evening during daylight hours, especially in thick brush where there is a dense cricket population.
