why do cats seem to get fatter than dogs?

Cats don’t metabolise the same way dogs do. That is to say, they don’t burn as much energy. Cats spend most of their day sleeping (12-16 hours, the average being about 13-14). Cats do play though, often getting more active at night. If a dog is in a good home, it is active a good portion of the day. It goes on walks, it plays, it runs the yard (if a yard is available), and some dogs are even work dogs. Because of this, they metabolise more than cats and burn more fat. However, dogs can and will get fat if they aren’t given the proper care.
