Why do cats go crazy for catnip? Does it drug them?

Sort of. The chemical nepetalactone, which occurs in high concentrations in catnip, causes a reaction in the brains of certain suseptible cats. Not all cats are sensitive to nepepalactone. Scientists do not yet understand the exact mechanism of the nepetalactone reaction.
