Why do blue fin tuna get so large?

A blue fin tuna has a average size of 6.5 feet long and 550 pounds.  This large size is caused by their ravenous eating habits.  They constantly eat a variety of sea creatures including other fish, crustaceans, squid, and eels.  When they are not chowing down carnivorously, they will also filter feed plankton and munch on kelp.
