Why do the beaches in California close down every now and then?

    A common cause of CA beach closures is water pollution.  Usually, this occurs after a large storm and the ocean becomes polluted with human waste from overwhelmed sewage systems.  Also there is a lot of runnoff that goes directly from storm drains into the ocean.  Another common problem in CA are red tides or large algae blooms.
