Why did we go away from glass bottles for soda pop?

Simply because plastic bottles are cheaper to mass produce than glass bottles.  In Canada and several other countries, soda is still sold in glass bottles.

Plastic is often cheaper, easier to mold, and won’t break in sharp shards to cause accidents.  Either material isn’t necessarily bad as long as you produce them sustainably and arrange for easy recycling options.  It has become easier these days to recycle your used bottles now that there are bins specifically for that purpose on most streets.

One word: cost. It is much cheaper for the soda company to use plastic than to use glass. Though, glass is much eaiser to recycle and would probably cost them less in the long run.
