Since the demand for electric cars has been increasing, Nissan CEO Toshiyuki Shiga decided to start up lithium battery plants in Europe. There will be three total and the goal is to be able to produce a greater number of electric cars to supply the demand. Actually construction on the Portugal plant started this year and the benefit of the location is that it will be adjacent to a Renault assembly plant. Supposedly this Nissan-Renault Alliance will especially increase production capacity, as it is estimated that by 2015 the Alliance should be able to produce nearly 500,000 cars globally.
