why did logging take place in north america

    To get lumber to construct buildings and all the other things made of wood.

    Just a note on logging:  Logging itself is not necessarily bad for the environment.  How the environment is affected depends on the practices used.  The link below discusses sustainable forestry.

    Because there were millions of very large trees, and it used to be cheaper and easier to get lumber “locally” rather than from other continents like Asia.
