BP and the US government took measures to limit the flow of information. Representatives from the Coast Guard threatened photographers and journalists attempting to publish certain information and photographs. Journalists entering the site were subject to extensive questioning, and almost always denied once the company found out they had media affiliations. Most of the video and images from the spill were given to congressmen by BP. In these cases, the congressmen ignored BP’s request not to leak the images to the media.
