Why did Japan recently revive efforts for a climate bill?

    The only information I’ve been able to find indicates that, in fact, industry in Japan has been pressuring to reduce the amount of environmental legislation put out by the Japanese government.  Are you possibly thinking about the recent environmental youth summit that was held in Japan?  That summit was about realizing a sustainable society in our global future.  If you want to know more details about it, there is a great article linked below.

    Yes Japan has actually threatened to not sign onto another phase of the Kyoto Protocol – set to expire in 2012 – unless other industrialized nations start to take the initiative in CO2 reductions. It seems Japanese leaders are concerned about a growing Chinese economy, a direct competitor with Japan, and a country not bound legally to any CO2 reductions. Events like the Environmental youth summit are promising though.
