Why did the Eucalyptus tree succeed in invading california?

Unlike most of the state’s native trees, eucalyptus trees can grown 15 feet a year and the toxicity of the leaves they drop makes it very difficult for other trees to grow and if they do – since they don’t grow as quickly they will lose out on the competition for sunlight.
