Ethanol burns much cleaner than gasoline, but not every engine can process it without significant damage to the vehicle. The EPA recently approved a mixture with 15% ethanol, or E15, as it would reduce the emissions caused by cars who would use it while being an amount that is able to be effectively used by many cars without causing damage to the engine.
E15 is still only approved for certain cars only, specifically cars, SUV’s, and light-duty trucks made 2001 or later. E15 is still dangerous and therefore prohibited to use in motorcycles, off-road vehicles, heavy-duty engines, and cars made in 2000 or earlier.
