Why did the city of New York withdraw its green building plan?

New York withdrew its green building plan (all buildings larger than 50,000 sq ft take steps towards becoming greener) because it recieved sharp criticism from building owners who would have had to front most of these costs.

Building renovations would’ve totaled nearly 2.5 billion dollars, only 16 million (or .64%) of which could’ve come from the economic stimulus plan. It is clear than not enough money was put into the economic stimulus plan to make green innititatives economically feasible.
