Why did the army corps of engineers decide to divert the Los Angeles river?

    During the 1930s, the LA River was unpredictable and often flooded, causing catastrophic damage to Los Angeles.  This called for flood control measures to be taken, and the Army Corps of Engineers was enlisted to construct the concrete channel that is the river’s bed today.
