It’s being investigated for a methadone overdose. However, there were other complicating factors. He had Dengue Fever at the time, which is a tropical illness causing aches in the body. He may have overdosed because of the pain from the fever. An autopsy was conducted on the 10th of November, but results won’t be in for 60-90 days after.

Andy Irons, originally from Hawaii, died at the young age of 32 on Nov. 2nd.  Irons was a three-time world champion surfer and will be mourned by his wife, his unborn child, and the entire surfing community.  Irons had been suffering from dengue fever, a tropical illness which is not typically deadly.  He was on his way home to Kauai from Puerto Rico, where he had withdrawn himself from a surfing competition, and was found dead in his hotel room at a layover in Dallas.  Most reports claim his cause of death to be complications due to dengue fever, however, some unsubstantiated claims have mentioned possible evidence of a methadone overdose.  An official cause of death has yet to be released.
