Deer are a very gamy animal- if you think about it, we associate the food most closely with hunting. The etymology, as far as this is concerned, is that the word “venison” is derived from the Latin “venor,” which means “to hunt.”
The Latin word vēnātiō translates into ‘’hunting’’ which was adopted by the French.
It wasn’t until the 18th century that it was associated with deer meat.
