Clearcutting can cause destruction of an ecosystem in many ways. It destroys the natural habitat of many creatures and organisms, resulting in devastation to both the local food chain and on a global scale. Clearcutting can cause more severe flooding due to the lack of the natural tree buffer. It advances global warming through the destruction of forests as carbon sinks. It also decreases local economic opportunities like fruit picking and sap extraction.
