In a study that analyzed mucosal biopsies from a sample population of women, estrogen receptors (ER’s) were found in the salivary glands of 90 percent of post-menopausal women tested, and in 100 percent of the 19-year-old women tested. There is debate among the medical community over whether the presence of estrogen receptors in salivary glands is related to mucoepidermoid carcinomas and adnoid cystic carcinomas; tests have not shown there to be any connection between ER’s and these cases of carcinomas. Saliva ovulation tests have been shown to be very accurate due to the increase in salinity that occurs at the onset of ovulation: http://www.ovulation-calculator.com/ovulation-tests/saliva-ovulation-predictor.htm
