Mass scale cattle ranching can be bad for the environment. There are usually chemicals involved in feeding the animals that can run off into clean water sources and also impact air cleanliness. Cattle in large quantities together can also produce large amounts of methane that are bad for human health. Cattle are also often mistreated and can easily get diseases in mass farming environments.

Cows that feed in open pastures and are free to roam as they would in the wild do not have a huge environmental impact. They can actually help to keep soil fertile and keep an ecosystem working properly.
