Why is cartilage important for your body?

Think of your bones has a car, and the cartilage as the oil that makes it run. Without that oil, nothing would run smoothly, all the parts would rub together in a way that caused a lot of friction and pain. Cartilage is why it doesn’t hurt when you move your knees or elbows around… imagine if you actually felt those bones rubbing together. When you lose cartilage in those body parts, you immediately feel it.

Cartilage is a flexible type of connective tissue. It is an important structural component for many parts of the skeletal system like your joints. There are three different types of cartilage: hyaline, fibrous and elastic. This site gives you more information on the three types of cartilage.
