Milk cartons are recyclable, but not may municipalities do. As of 2006, only about 550 towns across the US recycled milk cartons. This includes NYC and Boulder, Colorado, but not LA, Washington DC, or the entire state of Pennsylvania. According to the National Recycling Coalition, milk cartons are diffucult to recycle because of the wax lining. Not all recycling centers have the technology or capabilities to process the wax.
