Very good question. Because their skin is much more sensitive. Dogs will dry out much more when they are washed rather than humans. They would become too dry if washed everyday 🙂
It is unnatural for a dog to be bathed as frequently as we would like them to be, and especially unnatural that they would be cleaned with nice-smelling shampoos! That being said, excessive washing will dry out a dog’s skin and strip them of the essential oils they produce on their fur. The oils are there to keep the dog warm and buoyant, helpful when swimming. The smell that we enjoy so much more than their natural odor is unpleasant to them, and they will go to great lengths to avoid masking their “calling-card.” On average, dogs shouldn’t be bathed more than once a month and only with mild soaps and shampoos.
