Biodiversity holds the same importance in river ecosystems as it does in all ecosystems. Biodiversity supports the overall health of a community by providing dynamic interactions between the predators, grazers, scavengers, parasites and primary producers of said community. These dynamic ecosystems can better cope with various disasters which can afflict an ecosystem, diversity within an ecosystem also lends to population stability of its members.
