The green aspect of bamboo as a building material is mostly due to its growth speed. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world, growing up to four feet per day. This meant that unlike trees which take 30 years to reach maturity, bamboos can do so in 3-4 years. Furthermore, a forest bamboo will produce more oxygen than a forest of trees of the same size. It is also completely degradable and regenerates on its own. That means that using bamboo as a building material doesn’t deplete the Earth of resources as fast as using trees, since all bamboo used can quickly be grown back.
