The primary danger asbestos poses to humans affects their lungs. Microscopic asbestos fibers can be inhaled, and they lodge deep inside of the lungs. After years this can develop into lung cancer or mesothelioma. In addition, inhaling large quantities of asbestos can lead to asbestosis which makes breathing more difficult. Swallowing large quantities of asbestos may lead to other varieties of cancer as well.
