Not much of the U.S. is forested to begin with (take a look at this map). That’s not to say that canopy roads can’t be manicured–that trees can’t be planted along roadways by planners. This actually might be preferable to cutting through a forest with pavement. But the American road network grew quite rapidly, and I doubt that aesthetics were on developers’ minds!
