Why aren’t bottle caps recycled?

Plastic bottle caps are typically a different type of plastic than the bottles themselves. The plastic caps on 2-liter bottles are #5 plastic (Polypropylene), whereas the bottle is usually #1 (Polyethylene Terephthalate). Some recycling centers are only equipped to recycle #1 and #2 plastic, and will not accept other types.
